If the check box to the left of an item is ON (has a check mark in it), the folders will be re-scanned. If the check box to the left of an item is OFF, the folders will not be re-scanned. Typically, if you want to update the spatial location of files within a given folder, you should check this item ON for that folder in the list.

Checking ON or OFF an item for individual files has no effect. Any individual file in the list is guaranteed to be processed by the scanning tool.

In the image below, the BaseMaps\RasterFiles and City Project folders will be scanned and the individual files ControlPoints.shp and Lotlines.shp will also be scanned. The files in the BaseMaps\RasterFiles folder that already have a spatial location will be skipped, and the files from the City Project will all be scanned, whether or not they already have a spatial location.

If the check box to the left of an item is ON, all the files located in the subfolders under the selected folder will be scanned. If the check box to the left of an item is OFF, only the files in this folder will be scanned (files located in the subfolders will be ignored).

The Application Filter list is used to determine what type of files will be scanned based on their associated application. If no application is selected in the list, no filter will be applied and all the files will be scanned. This filter is applied to all the selected folders and subfolders. The Application Filter list only displays the applications that have been previously associated with one of the Spatial Metadata Scanners in ProjectWise Administrator (see ProjectWise Administrator documentation for details).

Essentially, associating an application with a Spatial Metadata Scanner is used to determine how the Spatial Location Scan tool should extract spatial information for a given ProjectWise document. The way spatial information is stored varies from one file format to the other (for example, a geotiff raster file does not store spatial information the same way as a shapefile or a dgn file), thus, it is important to properly configure the spatial metadata scanners so that the scanning tool yields optimal results. Therefore, showing the complete list of applications is pointless, since all document types whose application is not associated with an extraction engine cannot be processed by the scanning tool, because it does not know how to extract information from the document.

In the example below, the subfolders under the City Project folder will be processed, and only the documents whose associated application is either ESRI Shapefile, Images or MicroStation will be processed.

Extract Location Only — When selected, the tool only extracts the minimum bounding rectangle of the scanned file and uses it, along with the coordinate system selected in the Available Coordinate Systems list, to create the scanned file's spatial location in the datasource. To create a spatial location for the document, the bounding rectangle must be successfully extracted and it must have a valid extent.

Extract Location and Coordinate System — When selected, the tool extracts both the minimum bounding rectangle and the coordinate system from the scanned file. To create a spatial location for the scanned file, both the bounding rectangle and the coordinate system must be successfully extracted and the bounding rectangle must also have a valid extent.
